How to use Peas of Mind

Tap a part of the app to see how it works.

The Home screen

Home

Your day at a glance

  • The top shows what's next, anything due today, and the weather if you turn it on.
  • The round buttons under the header add things without leaving Home. The pencil asks To-do or Note: a to-do picks its list (with a reminder if you like), a note picks its topic. Others add an event or groceries, leave a note on the household board, scan a barcode or snap a dish.
  • The big card is yours to choose: meals, your week, the shopping list, the next event or the household board. Pick it in Settings › Home screen.
  • What's coming lists to-dos to tick off and the next few plans.

TipYour answers when you first set up chose the big card and whether the household board shows. Change either any time in Settings › Home screen. Tap your initials, top right, for Settings.

The Planner screen

Planner

Meals and the family's plans, one week at a time

  • Events lists everything coming up, day by day, birthdays included. Filter shows just one person or one calendar.
  • Tap + to add an event: say when, who it is for (you, to begin with) and whether it repeats, every day, on certain days or every week or month.
  • Meals is the week’s menu: breakfast, lunch and dinner for each day. Tap a line to pick a recipe, a quick meal or eating out.
  • History, on the Meals tab, shows what you ate over the last 90 days.

TipIn Settings › Planner & Calendars, add family members (like children, without an account), give everyone a colour, connect the calendars in your phone’s calendar app (Apple Calendar or Google Calendar, including accounts added there such as Microsoft 365; accounts that are only inside another app, such as Outlook, will not show), and choose which of those calendars remind you before their events (off to start with, in case your Calendar app already does).

The Recipes screen

Recipes

Your household's own cookbook

  • Add a recipe by hand, or paste a link from a recipe website and it fills itself in, with the website’s star rating. If you already have that recipe, it says so: look at yours, replace it with the new import, or keep both. A link that won’t import can be reported with one tap.
  • Rate a recipe with the stars on its page. Which rating the list shows is your choice in Settings › Customise: yours, the household’s, or the website’s.
  • On a recipe you can change the servings, send the ingredients to Groceries, or put it on a day.
  • Share a recipe from its page, as a message or a picture card, on WhatsApp, Instagram or anywhere. Whoever gets it doesn’t need the app. An imported recipe goes with its ingredients and a link to the website for the method.
  • Cook mode shows one step at a time, big, and keeps the screen awake.
  • Cook from pantry shows what you can make with what's at home, even if a few things are missing.

TipAdd a note to a recipe, like 'less chilli next time'. Everyone in the household sees it.

The Groceries & Pantry screen

Groceries & Pantry

One shared list for the shop

  • Type an item and it files itself under the right aisle. Swipe in from the right for Favourites, the things you buy every week: + adds one to the list, − takes one off, and a long press removes a favourite.
  • Tick things off as you shop. Tapped the wrong one? Tap it again straight away to undo.
  • The Pantry is what's at home. Mark things running low and put them on the list in one tap.
  • In the Pantry, scan a barcode to add a product without typing. If a barcode isn’t recognised you’re asked for its brand, product name and size. Please type them as printed on the pack: they go into a shared product list that other households’ scans use too, so accurate names help everyone and help the app recognise more products.
  • Tap “+ Use by” beside a pantry item to give it the date it goes off; the chip then shows how long is left. You get a reminder before then; choose how soon in Settings › Notifications, or pick a different day for just that item.

TipTap Shopping mode for the list full screen, in big type, with your phone kept awake. The X at the bottom takes you back. Changes show on everyone’s phone straight away, so you can split up in the shop.

The Notebook screen

Notebook

To-dos and notes

  • Switch between To-dos and Notes at the top. Tap + to make a to-do list or a note topic; each can be shared with everyone at home, or kept just for you. Every household starts with a General list and a General topic, which you can rename or delete like any other.
  • To-dos: add tasks, tick the box to finish, swipe to edit or delete. The bell in the add box adds a task and opens it to set a reminder. Tap the bell on a task to give it a day and time: it reminds you then, or, with just a day, in your daily reminders. Once set, the bell shows when.
  • Notes: a title and as much text as you like, saved as you type. The bar above the keyboard adds bold, italic, underline, crossing out, bulleted or numbered lists, and a checklist you can tick: Return adds an item, Return on an empty one carries on with your note. Start a line with “# ” for a heading. Web addresses become links. To move a note to another topic, press and hold it in the topic's list.
  • Deleting a list deletes its to-dos, and deleting a topic deletes its notes; the app asks first if anything is in it.

TipTasks with a due date also show on Home, so nothing slips. Choose what you hear about, including new notes from the household, in Settings › Notifications.

The Settings screen

Settings

Share it with the people you live with

  • Invite people when you first set up (by email: they join as soon as they sign in with that address), or any time in Settings › Account & Household with a code.
  • Customise is how the app looks for you: Home screen (your name, the big card, the shortcuts, which cards show and the weather), how Groceries and Recipes are laid out, and which recipe rating you see.
  • Preferences is how it works: Notifications (yours alone: what others add, reminders, and when they come), Planner & Calendars, and whether ticked-off tasks are deleted.
  • Not sure what a setting does? Tap the small i beside it.
  • Export your data or delete your account under Data & privacy. You can switch off the anonymous usage counts that help us see which screens are used (no name, account or content is ever in them) in Privacy & Terms.
  • Found a bug, or thought of something the app should do? Settings › Feedback.

TipShow hints again brings back the little tips if you've dismissed them.

Questions

Who can see what I add?

Everyone in your household sees and can change everything: recipes, plans, lists and to-dos. Nobody outside your household can see any of it.

Can I keep some notes or lists private?

Yes. When you make a to-do list or a note topic, choose Just for me: only you ever see it or what is in it. Choose Shared with household for things everyone should see.

How do I add my partner or family?

When you first set up, choose "Me and my household" and type their email addresses (up to five). Each gets an email, and joins as soon as they sign in with that address. Later on, go to Settings › Account & Household › Invite someone and send them the code; they enter it under "Have an invite code?" when they first sign in, or Settings › Account & Household › Join a different household.

Can I change the answers I gave when I set up?

Yes. Settings › Home screen changes your name, the big card and which cards show on Home, including the household board. Settings › Account & Household invites people whenever you are ready.

Can I add children who don’t have a phone?

Yes. In Settings › Planner & Calendars, add them as a family member. They get their own colour, and you can plan events for them, without them needing an account.

Do I need a password?

No. Sign in with Apple, with Google, or with a code we email you.

Does it work without internet?

Yes. You can see everything you've opened before, and changes you make offline are saved and sent as soon as you're back online.

How do I get my data out, or delete my account?

Both are in Settings › Data & privacy. Deleting is permanent, so export first if you might want a copy.

Something isn't working, or I've thought of something better

Go to Settings › Feedback, choose Bug report or Feature request, and tell us in a line or two. It comes straight to us and we read every one.

Can I get help if I cannot sign in?

Yes. That's the one thing you can't report from inside the app, so email support@peasofmind.co.uk and we'll sort it out. You'll find that address in the app too, under Settings › About & contact.

Still stuck, or got an idea?

Tell us what’s not working or what the app should do next. It comes straight to us and a real person reads every one. In the app, it’s Settings › Feedback.
